“I get excited to wake up each morning to read the Word!!! GMG has helped me to stay on a daily schedule, and develop a routine. I love the accountability and discussion between women in my group!”- Kerri

Believe me, I know it’s hard to be in God’s Word as a busy mom. Mornings greet us with to-do lists to be check off, messes to clean, errands to run and children to help mold……into God’s image. Yes, as moms, we are responsible for teaching our children about God. Not the youth pastors. Not the Sunday school teacher. Us. The parents. The moms.

As moms, we are called to be gardeners of our children’s souls…intentionally, lovingly planting God’s Word into their hearts.

But as gardeners of our own souls, we need to make sure we are watering our “gardens” with God’s rich, unchanging, life-giving Word too. How can we pass God’s Word onto our children if we ourselves are not in His Word? That’s where “Good Morning Girls” comes into play. We have simple 8 week online Bible studies, all designed with YOU in mind.

Why do we do this? Because we are all moms too, most of us with little ones still at home. We understand how hard it is as a mom to be in God’s Word on a daily basis……alone…..without any friends. Friends who will pray for you, encourage you…..cheer you on and cheer you up on those hard days. As women, we were not created to go through life alone but rather in community…with other Christian women. So I invite you today to learn a little more about GMG and extend an invitation to join us this spring as we study Luke chapters 9-16 TOGETHER.

Living Leading Like Jesus 3D CoverWhat is Good Morning Girls? (GMG)
If you have never heard of Good Morning Girls before here’s a little explanation. “Good Morning Girls” is a title for a group of women who use email, Facebook, Twitter, Skype or text messaging to keep each other accountable for their quiet times. For 3+ years, I have been a part of a group of girls who email each other each daily after we have our quiet time. We say “Good Morning” and then share what we read in our quiet time. Some of us have our quiet time first thing in the morning, while others squeeze it in during children’s naps or at bedtime. The time of day doesn’t matter…..our focus is just being in God’s Word daily!

Here’s ALL the information you need to pass on to your friends and invite them to join you for the 8 week study! There’s nothing like being in God’s Word as moms with your friends!

Who can join?
Single women, married women, women with kids, women without kids, high school or college girls….. basically ANY woman who wants to pursue walking with Jesus.

Why?
Our main goal is to be accountable to each other and to help each other maintain the discipline of reading God’s word daily as we apply what we are reading to our lives.

This is an 8 week commitment
The spring session runs from March 25th-May 17th.

3. The Treasure: The Treasure is the big idea of each lesson. In a short statement, it is what you want your child to remember from the passage you studied.

4. The Display: When an archaeologist finds a treasure, they will clean it up and put it on display for everyone to see. This is the basic idea of the Display. It is the application of the Treasure you have found!

Still not sure if you should join Good Morning Girls this spring? Here are a few quotes from women who participated in past GMG Bible studies!

“I think this study has brought a whole new level of mindfulness to my day. It has forced me to look at myself and evaluate my responsibility in strengthening relationships. It’s also helped me define goals for myself with the confidence that these are Biblical goals. It’s been a long time since I’ve studied the Bible with any consistency and I’m so grateful that I chose this one. Very positive!“- Ginny

“Thank you so much for this study. It’s made a difference in my life, which extends to my husband, children, grandchildren.”- Cheryl

“For the past 2 years, God has used GMG to draw me closer to Him than ever before. I’ve taken leaps of faith as I’ve learned He is always there waiting to catch and guide me. He’s granted me the courage to lead 3 GMG studies, and I love it. In doing so, I’ve become a prayer warrior, and I’m no longer fearful of being transparent. Praying for others and sharing my testimony are are two of the greatest ways in which I can share God’s love with others. God has given me the power and perseverance to overcome many trials, while resting in His peace for His perfect timing and plan – I’ve overcome depression and a 21 year battle with bulimia, and I’m full of joy and love life. I can’t achieve anything on my own. I need Him.”- Jen

“The GMG studies have been such a huge blessing to me and my daughters. My 17 and 16 year old daughters have done the last 3 studies with me and it has brought us closer. God has been able to draw us near to him while also drawing us closer as mother and daughters and them as sisters. We started out just doing the first one together, then for the second and third we invited friends to join us and it has just been a wonderful experience. God shows Himself through these studies.”- Betty

Bible Felt and The Dig

We are on week 5 of The Dig for Kids. You can still join us!! Get your copy here: PDF, Kindle, Nook

Many people believe that Bible felt is a thing from the “old days” and it’s not as effective or useful today.

I  beg to differ. We bought the Betty Lukens Bible felt set last year and my children absolutely love it. It really paints a lovely picture of the stories we read through the Bible. It helps children visualize the story in a tangible way. It has been one of the most effective tools we have ever used.

After I read a story, I will allow my children to use the felt to retell the story to the rest of us. Then, they spend time reenacting the story on their own free time or creating a new story with the felt we used that day. Because the felt is “Bible felt” they often create stories based on what they’ve read in other parts of the Bible.

It is a very rewarding experience!

So, in this case, we are using it to help guide our lessons through the Dig for Kids. Here we are illustrating the story of the man who could not walk and whose friends lowered him down through the roof of the house to get to Jesus.

This is an investment that I believe paid for itself 100 times over. I cannot stress enough just how wonderful this tool has been for our family. Having the Dig guide us through Luke and having the felt illustrate the stories makes our Bible time simple and extremely enjoyable.

It also helps me children “catch” the concepts and learn to apply them to their own lives.

What other helpful tools do you use to capture the Bible for your children?

Do Not Hinder the Children

We are on week 4 of The Dig for Kids. You can still join us!! Get your copy here: PDF, Kindle, Nook

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew19:14

Do we ever consider the ways we might be hindering our children from coming to Jesus?

Because children are young and immature, they need to be lead to the things that are good for them. Often times, they won’t go on their own. Often, we don’t willingly go to what is good for us, either!

When we fail to lead them, we are hindering them. We do not make it a priority to bring our children to a place where they can meet with Jesus, pray to Him, and learn more about Him through His word.

When we don’t live our own lives according to the righteous life God desires for us, our own lives hinder our children. When we create legalistic homes, where works save us, we hinder our children.

In what ways can we lead our children to Jesus?

Love Jesus. Our relationship with Christ is probably the one thing that speaks the loudest. It’s from this that everything else flows. When we seek Christ, we want what He wants. He wants our children living for Him, so we will be intentional about making this a priority. Does that mean we aren’t seeking Christ if we aren’t intentionally leading our children? I’d say probably not enough. Seek Him above all else.

Love our children. When we love our children in ways Jesus loves, we will act; because love is an action. Don’t wait for the perfect feeling to come along because you will be waiting a long time. Lead your children in the Word everyday because you love them and want them to grow in Christ. This is a place where perfection must be let go. There is no place for that here. Perfection is a hindrance.

Give them grace. As we need grace to cover our shortcomings, so our children need grace from us when they mess up. And they will mess up. When they see our grace toward them (because of the grace we receive from Jesus), they will come to understand Jesus’ love for them.

I think it’s important for us to honestly look at the ways we could be hindering our children from coming to Christ. Not only from a salvation standpoint, but a day to day relationship that builds over time. You don’t need to have all the answers before you guide your children. You can learn right along with them and watch as you see the Holy Spirit reveal new things to you.

As a parent, we learn some valuable lessons from raising children! Leading our children daily is quite a lesson for us in many ways. Let’s embrace this time, even if it doesn’t look perfect.
